Orthodontics
Dr. Mullen is an
orthodontist who has an office right across Sycolin Road in the
Leesburg Airport Business Park, and he is proud to sponsor the
Stingrays again for the 5th season.
This is a short little review of some questions
that we often hear in our office and may be
helpful to you and your family.
Most people are aware that an orthodontist
straightens teeth, and that most patients who
have braces are adolescents. A question we
often hear is “what is the best age for my child
to be seen by an
orthodontist?

There is no one best age, but
the American Association of Orthodontists recommends that
a
child should be seen by an orthodontist at
age 7. Treatment is not usually started at this age,
but some specific problems should be treated early to achieve a
better result, and bringing
your child in at that time can put your mind at ease.
Because most of the permanent teeth
have erupted by the age of 11-13 this is the most common time to
have orthodontic
treatment; treating at this time also affords the orthodontist the
opportunity to shape the
patients growth to some
extent.
Another good resource in deciding the timing for orthodontic
treatment is your general
dentist. When at your family dentist’s office at your
6-month exam and cleaning is a good time
to inquire about the need for orthodontic treatment. The
dental office can also be a good
resource to find a quality orthodontist in your area – the
dentist works closely with the
orthodontist to ensure your dental health and can usually point
you in the right direction.

Children and adolescents
aren’t the only ones getting braces, though. In fact
about 20% of orthodontic patients are adults. There is no
real age limit to have braces, and with the use of
Invisalign and similar products, it has never
been easier to straighten your teeth without
traditional metal braces. Not everyone
will benefit from Invisalign treatment; your orthodontist
can advise you as to what would be the most
beneficial treatment for you.
Whether you are 8 years old or 68 years old,
having orthodontic treatment can truly change
your life – being able to show off a
beautiful smile is a wonderful feeling.

Climbing Centers is the premier rock climbing gym in the DC Metro
area. With
locations in Sterling and Alexandria,
Virginia, we cater to all abilities and interests. Our
services include walk up and memberships, open belay, auto belays,
basic skills to
advanced movement classes, a host of kids’ programs to
include birthday parties, Kids’ Nite,
summer camp, and junior team, corporate and group programs, outdoor
classes and a
portable climbing wall we can bring to you.

We pride ourselves in the
quality and quantity of our routes (210+ roped climbs with walls
as
high as 40 feet and 230+ boulder problems ranging from easy to
difficult) and over 20,000
square feet of climbing walls with varied architecture. Our
route turn over is one of the fastest
in the country so you can be sure to find new and exciting routes
every time you visit one of
our locations. The climate controlled environment provides
for year round adventure.
Our instructors go through rigorous training to ensure the best in
quality instruction. We offer
a basic skills class, which teaches you how to put on a harness,
tie a knot, learn proper
climbing commands and belay for a partner. Our movement
series is nationally recognized
as one of the most comprehensive curriculums ranging from footwork
to turning to dynamic
movement to creative uses of the feet. We also offer
training classes as well as one of
country’s few adult climbing teams led by a USA climbing
coach.
